It's our paperless electronic record keeping system which enables us to ensure timely service delivery and follow-through on treatment plans for children seen through our mobile dental program. This proprietary application eliminates the need for paper records and the potential loss of information and delay in analysis that accompanies them. There is no need to shuffle hard copies of important information back and forth - a process that could result in critical information getting lost.
Instead, our mobile dentist's Tablet PC receives patient chart info from our central server. This includes a digital copy of the consent form the parent signed as well as all past patient history such as treatment plan, x-rays and health conditions. As the child is being treated, the dental assistant electronically charts on the Tablet PC's screen and the dentist adds his/her electronic signature at the end of the appointment. Incremental information is then uploaded at the end of the day to the patient's file. Regardless of what happens to a Tablet PC, the information is secure as it is backed up on 2 servers.
And, because our system reflects this updated patient information at the end of each day, our Case Managers know right away when a child needs to be re-appointed for follow-up care or the rare case where they need an outside referral. And if a parent has a request for information, we can access it easily over a computer while they are on the phone. We can even print and mail a copy of the x-ray quickly and easily. This cuts down the lead time for arranging the follow-up care, further replicating the experience of a more traditional dental home.
